Book Review: The Maid of Fairbourne Hall by Julie Klassen

     The Lowdown: Margaret Elinor Macy is to inherit an enormous sum of money on her 25th birthday. Unfortunately, her stepfather's nephew is after that money;  having been given permission to use any means necessary to woo Margaret. She is forced to flee her  home to protect her virtue. She is caught up in many circumstances that lead her to be employed by not one, but two of her former suitors. She must now work as a housemaid, a far step from her former residence. With mystery, beautifully descriptive details, and a heartwarming romance, this book should definitely be on your to-read list!
     I Liked: 

• The plot. It was very creative, and contained items from many genres. It was suspenseful, romantic, mysterious, and historical all at once
• Mr. Nathaniel Upchurch. Once you read it, you'll understand.
• The detail. So many books have a great storyline, but they do not have very much if any descriptive paragraphs. I believe these help one to see the beautiful settings in which the stories take place.
• The setting. I have always thought the English countryside in the early 1800s would have been a lovely place!  

I Disliked:

• The beginning. It was just a bit hard to get into the first three chapters or so, but it completely transfixes the reader thereafter.
  
  
  Overall, this was a fantastic read, sure to capture readers. If you visit a bookstore in the next few weeks, please pick up this wonderful book! It will definitely be worth your while!

Book review: Pure Love, Pure Life by Elsa Kok Colopy

     The Lowdown: Wouldn't it be great to live a pure, undefiled life? In today's culture, a truly pure life is hard to find. Being pure has as much to do with the spiritual as it does the physical. In this truthful, to the point book, Elsa Kok Colopy shares her story of her deep pit of heartache, and the awesome love of God that pulled her out of it. She shares techniques on how to avoid lust, and how to maintain your purity. She uses God's love letter to us as her ultimate resource, and shows how God can restore your life if you just give it to Him.

    

I liked:That this book was a great read, it covered numerous topics. It showed how we are made to love God, and used many wonderful analogies to how Jesus is our Prince Charming. I liked her use of true stories and how emotions can lead to sin when not handled properly.

I disliked: At times, I was quite uncomfortable reading about certain topics. Nothing said was untruthful, and was, in fact, necessary.  Just a bit uncomfortable.

Overall: I would recommend this book to girls ages 16+, maybe even older depending on your specific circumstance. Pray if you aren't sure if this book is right for you.
