Book Review: The Wedding Dress by Rachel Hauck

The Thickening Plot

Life is good for Charlotte. She is the owner of a chic, modern bridal salon in Birmingham, Alabama she is engaged to an awesome man, and she is certain she will find the perfect dress for her wedding. It is smooth sailing until she purchases a hundred year old trunk, with the lock on front welded shut. Her curiosity piqued, she goes to great lengths to find out the mysterious history behind the lovely wedding dress the trunk contains. Through her journey, she begins to discover more about herself, and doubt her upcoming wedding. In the end, she must find out the truth of her beautiful heritage.

I ♥

·        The multiple stories woven into the book. Each one was so unique, yet so very similar.

·        The characters. I love it when the character seems like a friend.

·        The detail. Just the way the author described the dress, and the way she described the characters. It is a true art.

I Didn’t ♥

·        A couple romantic paragraphs. Not awful, but something for parents to be wary of.

·        The beginning was a bit slow, not unbearably, but it takes a minute to get into the book.

Overall

This book is worth your time. The perfect book for an airplane ride, or a road trip. This book would also be fun to give at a bridal shower, or as a party favor at a bridal shower. I would say this book is worth your money.

Book Review: Freedom's Stand by J.M. Windle

     What would you do if you, a thirteen-year-old girl, were being forced into a marriage as one of the many wives of a very aged opium addict? This frightening scenario opens the first scene of the book, and sadly, this is the unbelievably inhumane case for many young ladies living in Afghanistan.  This book focuses on three people:

      Jamil, the former jihadist turned doctor, ever proclaiming the love and mercy of Jesus Christ.

      Amy Mallory, the director of the New Hope foundation, struggling to maintain the hope of women and children. And Finally there is

      Steve Wilson, the veteran special forces agent simply looking for a purpose in life; he just wants it somewhere other than Afghanistan.

In a twist of fates, these three people will work hard to find love and freedom, which could cost them their lives

     I liked reading the happenings of the nameless girl’s destination of running away from her fiancés. Although this book was written extremely factually, it was somewhat hard to get into after the prologue. I believe it would have been better were it slightly less chaotic. It took me quite a while to figure out what was happening in the story. On a happier note, the cover was incredibly stunning! I could not believe the beautifully bright colors, much less the strikingly clear swirls. Overall, I thought it was a good book once you got into it, and the truthful displays of Afghan hardship. This book could really help the Afghani people!

Book Review: Praying for your future husband

Before. it. starts. with numerous prayers, discussion questions, real-life tales of women who have prayed for their future husband, and plenty of truth-bringing scripture, this book is perfect for graduation presents, group discussions, and to read on your own! This book is beautifully written, and just as  beautifully designed!

   I know of one word that states my feelings on this book. Wow. Say that backwards. Wow. This was an incredibly amazing book. What stood out to me, is how they shared their opposite-yet-similar love stories, and were so very down to earth. They also maintained  a very practical application of the prayers, and encouraged the nurturing of a beautiful romance with God, the creator and lover of our souls. Overall, I believe that every single girl should read this prior to going into a dating/courting relationship.
