Book Review: An Amish Wedding by Beth Wiseman, Kathleen Fuller, & Kelly Long

This sweet, fun, Amish book is composed of three novellas: "A Perfect Plan" by Beth Wiseman, "The Perfect Match" by Kathleen Fuller, and "The Perfect Secret" by Kelly Long. With three stories of three different couples weaved together effortlessly, this book is a sure win. Priscilla is having numerous problems with her wedding preparations, she wonders if perhaps God is telling her to postpone the wedding. Rose is content with her recent engagement, but only content. Could her fiance be hiding something? Naomi tries to be happy as an "old maid" as her friend calls it, however she is terribly sad that she has not met her special someone yet. Through the tales of trial and triumph, An Amish Wedding shows the live of the Amish, in a way us "Englischers"
I loved this book. There was such an innocent feel to it. I always enjoy books about the Amish, and this one was great, it made me want to read more! I really enjoyed the use of Pennsylvania Dutch words, and felt like an Amish scholar by the time I finished! As for all things cosmetic, the cover was lovely! It was simple {in a good way} and plain, no pun intended. This book would make a wonderful gift, and I enjoyed it very much!

Sincerely,
Libbi H.

This book was given to me by Thomas Nelson Publishers {free} for this review

Authentic People ♥

So, my dear followers, I finally caved. I have been super busy, but I have seen MANY people do this blog party, and so I decided to do it as well!

1} What's the nerdiest/geekiest/weirdest thing about you?

I cannot snap or whistle *hides in nerd shame* This is weird and un-American  people. My six year old sister can do both. And she tried to teach me how to whistle {With no success, I might add} It is embarrassing. Truly.

2} If you could live in a fictional universe from any book, movie, or television show, what would it be?

I would live in the movie "Sky High." Really. I used to think it would be the coolest thing to have a superpower. Like invisibility. C'mon folks, that is awesome. Superb amounts of awesome, actually.
3} Little or big, practical or frivolous, what is one of your favorite items in your house?
My new pitcher!  About two weeks ago I was able to go shopping at Anthropologie, and have decided it is the coolest place. Ever. Here is a picture of the pitcher.
Isn't it wonderful? *cough* it was on clearance *cough* *cough*
4} Do you like animated movies? If so, what is your favorite?

Yes. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. Best. Movie. Ever.
5} What is your favorite household chore?
Dusting! Though odd, somewhat enjoyable. For a chore that is...

6} What's your favorite thing to get at Starbucks (or your favorite coffee shop)?

Cinnamon Dolce Latte Frappuchino w/ an Extra shot. Heaven in a cup. Wonderfulness.
7} What is your favorite pizza topping?

Pineapple. And mushrooms. And olives. Altogether  in that order. Almost better than a cinnamon dolce...
8} Waffles or pancakes?

Perkins Pancakes.  Now I am starving.
9} Do you like to play games? If so, what is your favorite?

Yes yes yes! Games are the best! My favorite is red rover. Really. You can stop laughing now. One of the best games ever. Except noone ever tries to break through my arms, nor do they have me try to break through theirs. Cause I would win. Every time.

Oh, and for boardgames, Scrabble is a winner. As am I. Always.
10} Have you ever let anyone win a game?

Yes. How can you let a six year old sister lose?
11} Have you ever dyed your hair?

I had highlights once. Never even reapplied dye. Literally gone within a month.
12} Do you make your bed every morning?
Hmm, No... *cough cough* I , uh, do it when I , uh, can...
13} Picasso or Norman Rockwell?
Norman Rockwell :)
14} Do you like carpet, tile, or hardwood floors?
Hardwood! So much prettier than a lot of tiles!
15} If you could put one thing in a safe under your bed, what would it be?
My Camera? I am not positive... Yes my camera would be the "safe" item :)
16} What's your favorite condiment?
Pickled ginger. SO SO SO good. I love it. Wonderful.
17} Have you ever thrown up on someone (excluding when you were a child)?
I don't think I have, however, my dog threw up on me when I was about ten. I made a new shirt out of a wal-mart bag. If you are ever in a the-dog-puked-on-me-i-need-new-clothes sort of jam, rip off the bottom of a plastic bags. It already has armholes! ;)
18} What was the last thing that made you laugh?
I think something my dad said, I am not sure though! :)
19} Think fast...what's the first song that pops into your head?
You are for me by Kari Jobe...Again, wonderful...

Book Review: When the Heart Cries by Cindy Woodsmall

When the Heart Cries by Cindy Woodsmall
When Hannah Lapp is proposed to by the Mennonite Paul Wadell, she is elated. There is a problem with this  incredibly in love couple, Hannah is Amish. Facing the possibility of being shunned, Hannah hopes that Paul can win over her family and community by working free on her family’s farm. Unfortunately, a tragedy strikes on the eve of their engagement, and Hannah is thrust into a world of doubt, despair, and depression.  Will Hannah overcome the fears and memories that haunt her, or will she be swallowed by them?
I saw that this book was able to be requested, and I love Cindy Woodsmall’s  books, so I was excited at the opportunity to review one. I always enjoy Amish books because they are usually very pure. This one was not.  There was an entire “scene” if you will, that I was entirely uncomfortable reading, and it leaked into the following chapters.
I believe this book could really minister to women who have been affected by a wrongdoing more evil than all the others, however, I was VERY uncomfortable reading this book, and I would only suggest reading it to either very mature adults or victims of rape. Sadly, I did not enjoy this book very much.
   Sincerely,
Libbi H.
Waterbrook Publishing gave me the book in exchange for an honest review.

Fall Fashion Week 2011: {catchup} Day 7 "Hats"

I want everyone to guess how many hats I own...1. And it is a  "it is below zero I need a warm head glove" kind of hat. SO I tried to tie a scarf around my head, so it covered my head, so that is the best I can do! :)

Actually, I like most of the trends this year, but surprisingly, my favorite is the "Maxi Skirt + Chunky Sweater" Combo. Odd I know. Let me know what you think!

{The Belt Detail}

So, I think it was fairly successful! I actually like it! So, here is where I purchased the outfit:
Sweater: OldNavy / Belt: Dillards / Shoes: Hand-me-downs / Skirt: Gift

Fall Fashion Week 2011: {catchup} Day 4 "Favorite Era"

Well, my favorite era is the 70s...The 1870s that is! Unfortunately, try as I may to come up with an "'1870s" outfit, I could not. SO I decided to try the 1970s, which, while I do not like a lot of the morals or thinking of that time, they had a lot of flowy-ish clothes, which I do like! So here is my outfit!

{Mumu: Thrifted{{ Made in Hawaii!}} { Headband: Garage Sale earlier this summer} {My lovely birks: Also a garage sale}
Anyone who thinks my outfit is a little to cold for fall oughta move to Colorado...We here are tough folk... :)
{See that paint? Yeah. That's from painting for the past 3 days... haha}
Sincerely,
Libbi H.

Civil War Balls 2011

So, as a young lady who is homeschooled, I don't have the opportunity to go to dances such as homecoming or prom {which, in my opinion, is probably for the best}we have a civil war ball each year. It is one of those special things, because you cannot attend one until you are 13, and you get to buy a special dress, etc. It was my sister's first year going, and my fourth. For the first time, I was given the opportunity to go to both the regular night AND the 17 and older night, due to the hostess's request! I had so much fun! Here are a few photos from the two nights.
