Fiction Friday: When Jesus Wept by Bodie and Brock Thoene

Israel is on the brink of a rebellion. Rome is trampling God’s people. Chaos is typical. David ben Lazarus is living in this political situation. With a recently deceased wife and son, his heart is shattered, and he does not know if he can ever move forward. When his best friend invites him to go see the new prophet, John the Baptist, Lazarus jumps at the opportunity for a distraction from the sorrow that has been engulfing him. What he see when he arrives to hear John, is something that the world did not even notice. The Son of God has come to earth, and Lazarus is not sure if it is a dream. As the friendship between Jesus and Lazarus grows, so does the uncertainty surrounding the zealots and insurgence. Is this Jewish carpenter really the king of kings?
I LOVED this book. So, so, so much. As always, Bodie and Brock Thoene have delivered a fantastic, accurate, and poignant novel that draw readers in. I read the AD Chronicles by the Thoenes, and I was ecstatic when I found out that they were beginning a new series. When Jesus Wept did not disappoint. I so enjoyed the first-person narrative, and I learned so much historically in each chapter.
Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone, any age, any time, and any place. If I could rate this book higher than five stars, I would. I would highly recommend that you buy this book, and congratulation to Bodie and Brock on their wonderful novel!

Fiction Friday: A Clearing in the Wild by Jane Kirkpatrick

Emma Wagner is trapped. Feeling constricted by the restrictions of Bethel, Missouri, she defies the communities leader and chooses to marry whomever she pleases. In this small community of those who want to live a simple life, her rebellion is not well tolerated. When her new husband is sent off on a mission to gather more believers, she feels as if the colony’s leader is not keeping the community’s best interest at heart. When she begs the leader to let her travel with her husband on his pioneering journey west, she discovers her independence, and she begins to once again desire the small community.
I found this book to be very well written, and I enjoyed the first-person narration. I found that although it is not extremely suspenseful, I did want to keep turning the pages. Once I had read a bit past the middle, it did start to drag. Mainly, I just like the characters to do what I tell them, and when they do not, I get a little irritated with them. I do believe this book was worth reading, but it was not a fast-paced read. It did have a good plot, it just wasn’t one where there was a cliffhanger. Also, I REALLY liked the cover. A lot. It was stunning.
Overall, I believe this book is an interesting read for ages 13+. It shares a lot of fascinating information about the Pioneers, as well as information about America in the 1850s. This would be a good read for anyone who like stories based on a real person.

What I Wore Sunday: An Antipology.

Dress: Thrifted//Shoes:Thrifted//Undershirt:Old Navy//Scarf:Charlotte Russe
What's an "Antipology?" Basically, it's my way of saying I'm not really that sorry. I have been at work a ton this month, and I have been finishing up WorshipU.  Now, I love posting on this blog, but I have really been working on freedom in my life lately. So, from this point forward, I may post once a week, once a day, or once a month. I just don't need to feel guilty about not posting anymore.
I haven't worn this dress in a couple of years. It is super comfortable, but the v-neck always bothered me. I really liked wearing it though. Also, this is one of my favorite scarves.

Not the best pictures, but I am just not  much of a poser. Ha! How was your weekend?
